Pre Registration Period

Pre-registration (Early Registration) Guide

This page is prepared for Boğaziçi University department students who wish to take courses during the Summer School pre-registration (early registration) period. Preparatory (Hazırlık) School students cannot register during this period.

The registration process primarily consists of course selection and payment steps. To ensure a smooth process, it is recommended to follow the steps below carefully.

1. Planning and Course Selection

Courses to be offered in Summer School are announced on the Summer School website as of January and are added to the BUIS system as the Schedule 3 period for the relevant year.

  • Offered Courses: Changes may be made to the course schedule over time, or new courses may be opened. Therefore, it is important to check the course list regularly.
  • Registration Requirement: To benefit from the pre-registration period, at least one course must be added to your program.
  • Course Load: Students can take a maximum of 10 credits or 3 courses in Summer School.
    • Three 4-credit courses can be taken.
    • Four 2-credit courses can be taken.
    • Four 3-credit courses cannot be taken.

2. The Payment Amount

The amount to be paid for the selected courses can be calculated using the Summer Payment Calculator tool on BUIS.

  • Billing Basis: Fees are calculated based on the total T+U+L (Theory + Tutorial + Laboratory) hours, not the credits.
  • Informational Purposes: This tool is for informational purposes only; adding courses here does not constitute an actual course registration.

Sample Calculation:

MATH 101 (T+U+L): 4+0+2 = 6
SOC 101 (T+U+L): 3+0+0 = 3
Total T+U+L: 9

Credit Fee (YKR): 9 x 630 TL = 5,670 TL
Application Fee (YKA): 1,170 TL

For Scholarship Students:

  • The Summer School scholarship covers the course with the highest fee among the selected courses.
  • Scholarship students only pay the application fee (YKA) and the fees for any remaining lower-cost courses.

Example: MATH 101 (6 hours) is covered; only SOC 101 (3 hours) and the YKA are paid.

3. Payment Procedures

2026 Pre-registration Payment Schedule:
Opening: April 13, 2026 - 10:00
Closing: May 8, 2026 - 16:00

  • Payments are made only through Garanti BBVA branches, ATMs, or online banking

  • Payment Titles:
    • YKA: Application Fee (Yaz Okulu Kayıt Ücr.).
    • YKR: Credit Fee (Yaz Okulu Kredi Ücr.).
  • Important: The amount of 630 TL seen on bank interfaces represents the unit fee for one hour. The total fee can be paid in a single transaction via the "partial payment" (kısmi ödeme) option.

4. Consent (Instructor Approval) Process

During course selection, different quota information may be encountered. This is visible in the quota field on the course schedule.

Code Type Description

  • Consent Timeline: May 6, 2026, 10:00 – May 8, 2026, 16:00.
  • Payment is not required to send a consent request.
  • Once approved, the course must be added to the program within 24 hours.
  • Communicating with the instructor beforehand is helpful but does not replace official system consent.

5. Completing Course Selection

After payment and necessary approvals, course addition is performed via the "Course List Preparation" on BUIS.

  • BUIS Access: May 6, 2026, 10:00 – May 8, 2026, 19:00.
  • Courses cannot be added without fulfilling the payment obligation.

6. Advisor Approval

  • Course programs created during pre-registration are not sent for advisor approval.
  • However, it is mandatory to submit the final program for advisor approval during the regular registration period.
  • It is highly recommended to consult your advisor before selecting courses.

7. Refund Policy

  • Refunds can be requested for courses dropped during pre-registration or final registration periods.
  • The refund schedule begins after the summer school add-drop period.
  • Refunds are not issued for courses dropped during the add-drop period.
  • Only the credit fee (YKR) is refunded for courses that cannot be taken due to quota issues.
  • The application fee (YKA) is non-refundable.
