How to Open a Course

To offer courses during the Summer Term, the “2026 Course Opening Form for Departments” must be used. The course opening form must be signed by the Department Chair, and it must also include the name and signature of the person who will coordinate the activities of the department throughout the Summer Term. In line with the decisions taken by the University Executive Board (UEB), it is of utmost importance that the course opening procedure be followed carefully. The rules applicable to course offerings are listed in bullet points below the table on the form. These rules are as follows:

If any of the following information is missing for a course requested to be offered—syllabus, course description, course schedule, or instructor information—the course will not be opened.

BU faculty members may teach a maximum of 4 courses, provided that they do not exceed 11 credits during the Summer Term. Guest instructors may teach up to 3 courses, provided that they do not exceed 8 credits.

For instructors coming from outside the University, the relevant Administrative Board approval, the part-time instructor information form, and, if the instructor is a foreign national, additionally a copy of the passport and an open identity form, must be submitted to our Office as attachments.

Title changes must be reported to our Office, especially in cases where instructors have earned the title of Associate Professor but have not yet received their official appointment.

In order to avoid problems with additional course payments for those who are officially assigned outside Istanbul during the Summer Term, make-up arrangements must be submitted to our Office.

Due to ongoing issues regarding assistant compensation, assistant notifications should not be submitted.

Since it may affect student enrollment, attention must be paid to reporting course hours without splitting time slots in the course schedule.
(M, T, W, Th, F / Slot I (09:00–10:50), Slot II (11:00–12:50), Slot III (13:00–14:50), Slot IV (15:00–16:50), Slot V (17:00–18:50))

The reported course hours may be at most twice the total number of hours indicated in the credit breakdown (T + U+ L).
